For the Horses

Auchencairn House offers fully inclusive riding holidays on their own horses. They are English and Irish Hunter types, between 14.3 and 17 hands high and reliable as well as fun to ride. There’s special company too - a lama that thinks it’s a horse! Riders need to be reasonably experienced and confident. For riders bringing their own horses, this delightful 450-acre working estate offers traditional stables in a spacious yard with washing down area. Good quality grazing is available in paddocks of various sizes with natural stonewall fences. Straw, hay and basic feed can always be provided. Secure storage for tack and ample parking space.

For the People

It’s like staying in a castle with luxurious and spacious bedrooms including a big, old-style bath in one of the Double rooms (ideal after a full day’s ride). Let yourself be taken back in time in the grand dining room or in the traditional library, sipping a wee dram…. The fully inclusive package includes B&B, luxury picnic or barbecue and 3-course dinner. A characterful self-catering cottage with field and stables is also available for rent. This is where the rider’s dream of their horse grazing under their bedroom window comes true!

Riding Opportunities

Enjoy miles and miles of exhilarating rides in glorious Galloway in the untouched south west of Scotland. The estate is situated right next to Auchencairn Bay offering hours of riding along the coast, woodlands, hills and fields with stunning views. This is quite an oasis you will want to return to again and again. Horses need to be used to crossing rivers and water. Choose from ½ day, full day or two day guided rides. Riders bringing their own horse on holiday can take advantage of guided ride services.

From Dumfries take the A711 to Dalbeattie. Carry on through Dalbeattie, still on the A711. Follow signs to Auchencairn at a bridge with traffic lights, still the A711. Shortly after entry to Auchencairn village turn left following sign to Balcary Bay Hotel. After 1 mile take right at tower gate lodge.
