Garroch Glen Estate![]() ![]() ![]() Take a step back in time when you visit Garroch Glen in the historical Glenkens. Old Garroch is a 17th Century Lairds House modernised without losing its character. The broad leaved woodlands, now a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), were planted around 1850. Some of the lochs were man made to drive the water wheels for the corn mill and saw mill, which made bobbins for the cloth industry in the 1800s. For the HorsesA choice of stables with a single Victorian stable right next to the house or two adjoining stables, all with paper bedding. For bigger groups there’s also the main stable block, bedded with rubber matting and shavings and with lockable tack room. Spring water supply and hay available. Hard feed by arrangement or bring your own. Two sheltered grazing paddocks with electric fencing. More paddocks on higher ground available if required. Riding OpportunitiesYou will find miles of off-road riding on the estate with superb scenery to the Rhinns of Kells and Carsphairn hills. Get your bearings by following the pleasure drive Dunveoch Carriage Road, built for Emma Parker wife of Yourston Grierson owner of Garroch around 1840. Look for Red Squirrels, Nuthatch, Tree Creepers and listen for Woodpeckers in the woods. There are Red Deer, Roe Deer, Hen Harrier, Kestrel, Raven, Larks, Meadow Pippit, Stonechat even Wild Goats, Badgers, Otter and Mink on the estate and the chance to see Red Kite released in the area in 2003. DirectionsLocated just three miles from St. John's Town of Dalry in the Glenkens in South West Scotland. On the A762 look for Garroch Glen, you go past the Glenlee Power Station and we are the fourth turning on the left sign posted as 'Old Garroch Mosside.' Follow a narrow forestry track up to Old Garroch house.
