Stowhouse Farm Self Catering Holiday Cottages are set in beautiful countryside with easy reach of Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland and Bishop Auckland.  Located within 60 acres of farmland and offering spectacular views with unrivalled peace and quiet overlooking the River Browney valley and open countryside, Stowhouse Farm offer 4 luxury holiday cottages for rent.  The cottages are within 11 miles of Beamish Museum and are in close proximity to the Durham Dales and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. 

For the horses
You can choose from stable only, stable and turn-out or just turn-out for your horse.

For guests who require a stable, there are twelve large stables are inside a large barn.  A shavings bed and hay are included in the cost, alternatively you can bring along your own bedding and hay.  Haylage and hard feed can also be arranged for you upon request. Stabling is usually DIY but if you want us to do the hard work, we can do the mucking out for you while you have a barbeque or relax in our 4 star rated holiday cottages or have a day out visiting one of the many tourist attractions our region has to offer.

For guest requiring turn out, all field boundaries are safe and secure, being post and rail with electric fencing or dry stone wall.  All fields have automatic water troughs and natural shade.

Wheelbarrows, mucking out tools and brushes are available. There is plenty of parking for your trailers and horse boxes.

Wolsingham County Show is held nearby as are Durham County Show which is held at Herrington Country Park, Sunderland and Northumberland County Show, Corbridge.  For competitors and horses we offer the perfect location to stay whilst visiting our region for these events. There is plenty of room to wash and prepare your horse or pony if you are competing in one of the shows.

For people
Our holiday cottages are self catering and vary in size, but adopt the same quality approach to furnishing and decoration throughout, having been awarded 4 stars by Visit England and Gold accredited by Green Tourism Business Scheme.  All linen, towels and gas/electricity are included in the price.   There is a laundry room on site with washing machine and tumble dryer. You will receive a warm welcome from Keith and Jane on arrival and a welcome pack is provided in each cottage.  Free fresh farm eggs from our own hens are available on request.

Riding opportunities
We offer 60 acres of private off road farmland with open grassland to ride through and we also have a lunging ring and an outdoor ménage at your disposal.  We have a selection of show jumps for you to use and why not try our fun cross country course, which has three levels of ability.

Alternatively, you and your horse can ride along the many quiet country lanes and bridleways the surrounding countryside has to offer. Hamsterley Forest is also nearby which has horse riding trails of varying lengths which take a range of routes through the forest and surrounding countryside
